day 16- amish you all so much

She said: Left from the Entrance to the Mammoth Cave National Park and rode the Green River Ferry (the ferry held 2 cars and a guy on a bike) across the 100' expanse. It was pretty cool. It was a pretty hot and humid day and we traveled through farm country most of the way. Saw a woman ahead of me on a motorless scooter (the kind the kids used to ride) in full Menonite garb. Started to see signs for horse and carriage transportation and then followed one down the road. The farms were large and had beautiful views, many of the barns had the symbols you would see in Amish Country in Pa. We traveled in and out of Eastern and Central time zones and finished in Central time in Falls of Rough, Ky. There is a large state resort park here with beaches, golf, miniature golf, tennis courts,a lodge, marina, camping, and even a small airport. The Army Corps of Engineers built a dam here and they lease the property to the State of Ky. We are staying in the campground along side the river, and it is very nice. When we stopped for lunch in White Mills the proprietor told us about the buffet they have on Friday and Saturday nights at the lodge at the state park. A big thanks-the dinner was great. A full buffet with salad, soup, catfish, chicken, pot roast, lasagna, bbq ribs, country vegetables, and a wide variety of desserts (all you could eat for just $12.45). Everything was delicious and we now weigh more than when we started! Typing the blog out in the gazebo outside the lodge. It's a beautiful night, still warm but there is a slight breeze.
He said: Ditto. I helped with she said. Saw a guy working a team of horses to cut his fields, and a little while later saw 2 young amish kids (or they were trying out for the remake of Little House on the Prairie-you would have loved it Ellen and John). Went for a swim in the lake, refreshing after a 90+ degree day with humidity. Kind of like winter in Florida. I beat Sharon at Nertz before supper, so we are now even for the trip. It's a long trip. 88 miles.

Some guy riding on the ferry with me. Couldn't get his attention.

Got his attention long enough for him to take my picture. Going down the highway at 30 mph!

Some of the signs we saw on the road today.

Working the fields.
The girls out for a chat together.
Pretty cool house. Can't put the kids in the corner though.

The state park at Falls of Rough.

  1. Good news/bad news; Good news is that I've started tracing your trip in the Atlas. The bad news is that you are lost because I can't find Falls Of Rough or even just Rough. I'm thinking you must be somewhere near the Edward T.Breathitt Parkway. The both of you are honing your blogging skills and keeping me in stitches as I read the entries. I don't know if you're heading straight west or not but you should probably be in either Missouri, Arkansas, or the corner of Tennessee when you stop next--- it opens up an entirely new lottery system for us.
