He Said, She Said: Day 26-Win some, win some

He said: Weather Channel gloom and doom with severe weather by noon through the night, flood watch in effect until Wednesday morning. What the heck, go for it, can't get any wetter than yesterday. With the noon forecast, figured ride as fast as I could, as far as I could before the bad weather. Trusty SAG companion, Sharon, left behind to load up, and catch up. Kansas isn't flat, it's a relative term compared to the Ozarks, the Appalachians, the Rockies, but definitely faster riding. One stop in Toronto (not Canada) and then caught up to Sharon by noon. Only a few sprinkles on the way, Sharon had already secured a room and moved all the equipment and provisions into it so we could hunker down and not ride out the storm. Logistically it worked out well, anywhere beyond here we would have had to camp, and with the impending catastrophic weather conditions we needed to be inside. It never rained. As the day went on it got more and more beautiful out. By 5:30 it was all blue skies and the temperature was climbing up towards 90. Put the afternoon to good use at the local library, Sharon working and me actually working. Big ride tomorrow-need to get over 100 miles to the next camping spot. 64 miles
She said: Paul left Chanute with the intention of getting in as many miles as possible without getting wet. I was planning on staying not far ahead or behind today. There was a terrific bike trail in Chanute which started in the town park across the street from our hotel. Went riding for about an hour, then loaded up and took off to catch up to Paul. The weather seemed OK-gray skies, but nothing threatening looking, so we agreed to meet in Toronto for something to eat. I have been surprised by the terrain in Kansas. I expected completely flat, corn fields, and a site line that went on forever.....sort of like what we saw in Kentucky. Instead we are seeing open rolling terrain, grazing cows, and lots more trees than I ever would have thought. We'll see what tomorrow brings. We went to the library this afternoon, it was fairly new and a very nice facility. We hope to make it an early night-long day tomorrow.
