Day 21-Hard to believe it's 3 weeks-and the hills keep rolling along!

He said: Whew! Just finished riding, sitting in the Summersville Library. Stopped in Emminence for lunch after 71 miles, called ahead to where we were staying to make sure they had a spot. The lady on the other end said, "yes" and there would be one more hill to climb on the way. She failed to mention it was 19 miles long. Reading the local newspaper and was amazed to see some familiar names from home. Bill, Joe, Rebecca, Ann.....We had to get back on the road so we missed the rodeo in Pilot Knob, Sharon wanted to ride, she figured she had a helmet, why not use it? Lunch in Emminence was outside at the DairyShack, unfortunately I had to share it with 200 flies. Good news, bad news, they had ice cream. We are in a non-profit cabin tonite trying to decide if my butt needs a day off or if I can go one more day in the hills. We'll see what is on the local agenda. If they have bronco busting, Sharon's in. Oh, by the way, we are happy to announce the beginning of our Popeye and Olive Oyl comic characters look alike contest. Send in your pictures and the winner, as voted on by the Followers, will receive a lottery ticket from each state we are in. So get em in. 90 miles.
She said: Got lost this morning...good thing I'm the one in the car. After going 15 miles or so in the wrong direction I realized I wasn't where I should be and had to back track (you can't get there from here!). Anyway, caught up to Paul in the afternoon and had lunch together (along with an annoying family of flies) at the Dairy Shack. If you get car sick-the Ozarks are not the place for you. It is like a roller coaster ride. You can see a series of ups and downs in front of you for quite a way and then as you roll over the hills you can't see anything until you reach the crest of each successive hill. We are staying in a small cabin type building-complete with small kitchen that is run as a non-profit to raise money for the local Community Center. There is a large building on the grounds with a skating rink and Youth Center. Trails, etc. on the property too. The populations of the towns we have been going through average 500-600 people, but they have grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants and places to stay. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow-will be checking what there is to do in the area-or outside the area.
Which way is North? No wonder Sharon got lost!

On the road-up one of the roller coaster hills, these pictures don't do the hills justice. Kind of like going up Horse Barn Hill over and over.
There was no place to pull over to get a good picture of the hills.
Did someone say ice cream? Here I come.
Waiting for burger and shake

  1. Did Sharon stay on for the full eight seconds? Flies in your ice cream are just more protein to convert into pedal power. Sounds like you both need a "Follow Me" car. The pix and scenery are great and I think I'm enjoying your trip as much as you are --- and I can sit without wincing at the end of the day.
